Dr. Diane Adreon, Ed.D

D r. Diane Adreon is an internationally recognized autism expert and public speaker, as well as an award-winning author. She specializes in helping children, teens, and adults with autism. In some instances, these individuals may have received prior or co-occurring diagnoses of Asperger’s Disorder, Asperger Syndrome, ADHD, OCD, ODD, non-verbal learning disability, anxiety, depression, or other related conditions.

Dr. Adreon has worked with neurodivergent children, teens, and adults on the spectrum and their families for more than 40 years, providing effective strategies, support and compassion. An adjunct professor who has taught graduate level autism courses for many years, Dr. Adreon provides leadership in organizations and programs that have helped thousands of children and adults on the spectrum. She has received numerous awards for excellence and commitment to families, children, teens, and adults with autism and related disabilities, including the Community Service Award from the UM-NSU Center for Autism and Related Disabilities and the Excellence in Family Advocacy Award from Parent-to-Parent of Miami.

Dr. Adreon is on the Professional Advisory Boards of College Internship Program, a postsecondary program for neurodivergent individuals, and the Association for Autism and Neurodivergent Individuals. She also serves on the Autism Advisory Board for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. She is on the advisory task force the Florida Developmental Disabilities Council established in partnership with the National Association of Dual Diagnosis (developmental disabilities with co-occurring mental health issues), as well as the advisory task force on the Florida Atlantic University Training First Responders pilot project with the Florida Developmental Disabilities Council.  

In the past she has served on the board of MAPP Services (More Advanced Individuals with Autism/Asperger Syndrome and Pervasive Developmental Disorder), a national organization based in Indiana and Advocates for Individuals with High Functioning Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, and Pervasive Developmental Disabilities, based in Long Island, NY, The Friendship Circle, which provides recreational opportunities and one-on- one special friends to children and adults with developmental disabilities and The Social Cog, an organization that helps adults learn the skills to create meaninful friendships.

Dr. Adreon’s book, Special Considerations for Students with High-functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Guide for School Administrators (Adreon & Myles, 2017). Dr. Adreon also co-authored Asperger Syndrome and Adolescence: Practical Solutions for School Success with Dr. Brenda Smith Myles, which was honored by the Autism Society of America as the Outstanding Literary Work of 2002. She also co-authored Simple Strategies That Work! Helpful Hints for All Educators of Students with Asperger Syndrome, High-Functioning Autism, and Related Disabilities (Myles, Adreon & Gitlitz, 2006).

Dr. Adreon has published papers on the subject in prestigious academic journals in the field. In addition, Dr. Adreon is a consulting editor for Focus on Autism and Other Developmental Disabilities. She received her doctorate in special education from Nova Southeastern University and a Masters from Teachers College, Columbia University, where she majored in special education and applied behavior analysis.
