Academic Institutions

Services available on-site and remote

A diagnosis of high-functioning autism spectrum disorder (HF-ASD), sensory integration disorder or ADHD often comes with a recommendation to parents: Find a good private school or a public school with small class sizes.
Although the recommendation is logical, school administrators and educators know that much more is required to provide an appropriate, effective education for children who need specific, often individualized strategies for success. For example, a learning specialist trained to help children with learning disabilities, may not know how to address symptoms of HF-ASD that may be an impediment to achievement.
Some academic institutions employ skilled autism and learning specialists and teachers trained in the use of appropriate strategies. However, many are ill-equipped to teach children with HF-ASD, while meeting the educational needs of all children.
Yet private schools are often the first choice for parents looking for smaller class sizes and a more individualized education.

The Learning Imperative
Regardless of the resources an institution, public or private, may have, all struggle to create an excellent learning environment for everyone, including those with autism and related disorders.
The learning imperative for academic institutions in the age of “mainstreaming” and “neurodiversity” is to deliver a quality education for children, regardless of their difference or disability. However, providing a quality education for students with average to high intelligence who also struggle with communication, social and sensory differences is a challenge.
Dr. Adreon has a wealth of knowledge and experience helping institutions meet the challenges of neurologically diverse classrooms. Dr. Adreon trains administrators and teachers to more effectively help children with high-functioning autism spectrum disorder (HF-ASD) to achieve, while maintaining an effective learning environment for all children. She has also worked with parents to help build successful partnerships with their children’s teachers and administrators.
